NOTA BENE
The name DEO GRATIAS is Latin for "Thanks be to God." It is the response to the closing versicle of our solemn Divine Office. The musical notations for the versicle are called neumes. They are the basic elements of musical notation prior to the five-line staff notation. The word NEUME is a Middle English corruption of the Greek word for breath, pneuma.
